The Beggar is a non-player character only encountered during the Merlin's Crystal quest. During the quest, the player is sent by the mysterious Lady of the Lake to the jewellery shop in Port Sarim for a test. Upon trying to enter the shop, the hungry beggar appears and requests a loaf of bread. If the player gives one to the beggar, he reveals himself to actually be the lady, and rewards the player's act of kindness with the Excalibur sword that they seek.

Trivia

• He addresses the player as "sir" regardless of their gender.
• The Beggar's test can be repeated in order to obtain multiple copies of Excalibur using the drop trick. This requires one bread for each sword.
  • It can be repeated even after completing Merlin's Crystal and The Holy Grail.
