*Finally, use the needle on the leather and select the item that you wish to craft.
*Now that you have the items needed go to the tanner in Al-kharid (10gp is required to cross the gate in, or you could go around from the top which is a longer walk: Beware of scorpions!).  He is to the west, basically directly south of the gate, right below the furnace. Talk to him and tell him you want him to tan your cowhides and he will change them into leather for a small price of course.

*Finally just use your needle with the leather and select what you want to make!

Leather working is a great way to start crafting, however it does require a small amount of cash to start out. These are some of the essential items used with leather crafting: Cowhide, needle, thread and some coins.

  • A player can obtain leather from killing cows. Many players find the cow pen to be a great training spot, and choose not to pick up the cowhides in order to let them stay longer. The cow pen is conveniently located right next to the gates into Al Kharad, which has a bank to the south(there is a 10 coin toll to go past it).
  • Needles and thread can be bought from the crafting shop to the east of Al-kharid. Only one needle is required for crafting, but 1 thread is required for every 5 pieces of leather crafted.
  • The last step is to trade the cowhide for leather. The tanner is located just above the furnace in Al Kharad and will exchange 1 leather for every cowhide and coin that the player has.
  • Finally, use the needle on the leather and select the item that you wish to craft.

Pottery Making:

Bol 25 7

The other good way to start crafting is pottery, you don't need any money for this method though! You do however need: A pickaxe (or money to buy some clay) and at least one jug of water (or you could buy soft clay).

  • First either buy your clay or the much simpler/cheaper way it to mine some. The best place is the Varrock West mine where there a few rocks with clay that aren't usually very crowded. This is close to Barbarian village where you will do the pottery making
  • Next go to a water source and fill up your jug(s) and use them on the clay until you inventory is full of soft clay.
  • Now go to the building in Barbarian Village with the potter's wheel and pottery oven in it. Use your soft clay with the potter's wheel and select what you want to make.
  • Finally use that piece of pottery with the pottery oven to finish the process!
