- RuneScape uses the British convention for floor numbering: ground floor, first floor (immediately above the ground floor), second floor, etc.
The purpose of an Emergency escape ladder is to allow the player to leave a building they would otherwise be trapped in. Some buildings, like guilds, have special skill or item requirements in order to travel through the front door. Failure to have such requirements could leave the player trapped inside. Before the addition of emergency escape ladders, Jagex moderators had to relocate the player if they became stuck.
One way to get stuck in a guild is by accessing it after consuming a stat enhancing item like a potion or some other drink. After a period of time, the player's boosted stat returns to the base level, which is below the requirement to pass through the guild's front door. Another way is to lose the item which was required to be worn to first enter the guild.
Uses[]
Champions' Guild[]
Considering that a player cannot lose Quest Points the way they can decrease their skills temporarily, Champions' Guild seems like an odd place to have an emergency escape ladder. However, it was necessary for a period early in RuneScape Classic's development. The guild originally required the maximum amount of Influence to enter, which was 22 by the time Influence was removed. It was replaced by Quest Points on 10 May 2001, and the requirement to access the guild was changed to 30. This meant that some players would otherwise be unable to leave the guild.
- The guild's requirement was later changed to 32 Quest Points.
Mining Guild[]
There are two entrances to the Mining Guild. The main entrance is through the door at the south end of the Dwarven Mine. The other is down the ladder inside the building east of Falador's east bank. Due to its close proximity to the bank, the ladder is often thought of as the main entrance to the guild and is used most often. However, the ladder also works as an emergency escape ladder from the guild because it doesn't check the player's Mining level upon leaving. The front door to the north still does.
Keep LeFaye[]
Using the emergency escape ladder is the intended way to leave Keep LeFaye during the Merlin's Crystal quest. The player is able to teleport out some other way, but may wish to use the ladder to quickly complete the next step of the quest.
Zanaris marketplace[]
The player is taxed 1 uncut diamond to enter and exit the Zanaris marketplace. To prevent getting stuck within or to avoid paying the tax, the player can use the ladder and be teleported southwest of Al Kharid bank.
