Examine is a function used with the mouse. To examine something, right-click with the mouse on a piece of scenery, and choose "examine" from the drop down menu. A message will appear in your chat box. For example: If goblin armor is examined, the examine text reads: "Armor designed to fit goblins."
If using a one button mouse, anything you click on will bring up the drop down menu, allowing you to examine an object.
