Fear was an early combat spell. It became available at level 12 EvilMagic, and required 3 mind runes and 1 water rune per cast. It was removed with the update on 10 May 2001.
It caused a monster currently engaged in combat to retreat. This effect was commonly exploited to steal monsters from players training melee, allowing the player who casts the spell to receive all of the experience and loot from a monster with already decreased Hits.[1]
