Mercenary[]

Before the quest[]

Mercenary: Yeah, what do you want?

        Mercenary: It's just a mining camp. Prisoners are sent here from Al Kharid.
        
        Mercenary: They serve out their sentence by mining.
        
        Mercenary: Most prisoners will end their days here, surrounded by desert.
        
        Player: So you could almost say that they got their... 'just desserts'
        
        Mercenary: You could say that...
        
        (There is an awkward pause)
        
        Mercenary: But it wouldn't be very funny.
        
        (There is another awkward pause.)
        
        Player: When they talk about the silence of the desert,
        
        Player: this must be what they mean.
        
        (The guard starts losing interest in the conversation.)
        Can I take a look around the place?

        Mercenary: Not really. The Captain won't let you in the compound.
        
        Mercenary: He's the only one who has the key to the gate.
        
        Mercenary: And if you talk to him, he'll probably just order us to kill you.

        Mercenary: He's been trying to track down a someone called 'Al Zaba Bhasim'.

        Mercenary: Well, he could be anywhere, he's a nomadic desert dweller.
        
        Mercenary: However, he is frequently to be found to the west in the
        
        Mercenary: hospitality of the tenti's.
        The Tenti's, who are they?
        Player: The Tenti's, who are they?
        
        Mercenary: Well, we're not really sure what they're proper name is.
        
        Mercenary: But they live in tents so we call them the 'Tenti's'.

        Mercenary: Well, I'm not sure, but by all accounts, he is a slippery fellow.

        (The guard looks around nervously.)
        
        Mercenary: You'd better go now before the Captain orders us to kill you.

        (The guard snorts.)
        
        Mercenary: *Snort*
        
        Mercenary: Just about anyone who talks to him.
        
        Mercenary: Unless he has a use for you, he'll probably just order us to kill you.
        
        Mercenary: And it's such a horrible job cleaning up the mess afterwards.
        Not to mention the senseless waste of human life.

        (The guard looks at you with a confused stare...
        It doesn't sound as if you respect your Captain much.

        Mercenary: We think he's not exactly as brave as he makes out.

        Mercenary: Many of us bet that he'll be slaughtered in double quick time.
        
        Mercenary: And all the men agreed that they wouldn't intervene.

Guard sending the player into the desert[]

Mercenary: Let's see how good you are with desert survival techniques!
(You're bundled into the back of a cart and blindfolded...)
(Sometime later you wake up in the desert.)

Draft Mercenary Guard: You won't be needing that water any more!
(The guards throw your water away...)
[Player does not have water or it has been taken]
(The guards move off in the cart leaving you stranded in the desert.)

When players try to bribe but cannot afford[]

Mercenary: Don't try to fool me, you don't have five gold coins!
Mercenary: Before you try to bribe someone, make sure you have the money effendi!
Mercenary: Guards, guards!
(You are under attack!)
(Nearby guards quickly grab you and rough you up a bit.)

Killing the captain but not having placed bet[]

Mercenary: Well, you've killed our Captain.
Mercenary: I guess you've proved yourself in combat.
Mercenary: However, you've left a horrible mess now.
Mercenary: And it's gonna cost you for us to clean it up.
Mercenary: Let's say 20 gold and we won't have to get rough with you?
- Yeah, ok, I'll give you 20 gold.
  - Player: Yeah, ok, I'll give you 20 gold.

  - Mercenary: Good! Seeya, we have some cleaning to do.

(You can see his brow furrow and he starts to sweat profusely)
Mercenary: Five gold for cleaning up the mess.
Mercenary: You have won 1 Gold piece!
Mercenary: Well done..!
Mercenary: Ha, ha, ha ha!
(The guards walk off chuckling to themselves.)

After winning 10gp bet[]

Player: Hey, I've come to collect my bet!
Mercenary: Well, I guess congratulations are in order.
Player: Thanks!
Mercenary: And we'll only charge the paltry sum of..erm...
(The guards starts to do some mental calculations...)
(You can see his brow furrow and he starts to sweat profusely)

Mercenary: Well done..!

Attacking a mercenary in the Desert Mining Camp or Desert Mining Camp mine[]

(This guard looks fearsome and very aggressive.)

When he despawns (After being spawned when player took their robes off)[]

Trying to enter the Mining Cave[]

Mercenary: Hey you, move away from there!

Mercenary outside the Mining Cave[]

Mercenary: Yeah, what do you want?
- Er nothing really.

  - Mercenary: Ok...so move along and get on with your work.

      - (The guard cuffs you around head.)

      - Mercenary: And it's been absolutely ages since I've had anything different to eat.
      - Mercenary: What I wouldn't give for some ripe and juicy pineapple for a change.
      - Mercenary: And those Tenti's have the best pineapple in this entire area.
      - (The guard winks at you.)

        Mercenary: The tenti's are what we call the nomadic people west of here
        
        Mercenary: They live in tents, so we call them the tenti's

Using the Tenti pineapple on the Mercenary outside the Mining Cave[]

Mercenary: Great! Just what I've been looking for!
Mercenary: Mmmmmmm, delicious!!

Mercenary: Yummmm....Oh yes, this is great.

Talking to him again[]

Mercenary: That pineapple was just delicious, many thanks.
Mercenary: I don't suppose you could get me another?
(The guard looks at you pleadingly.)

Entering trying to leave through the Mining Cave with Ana in a Barrel[]

Mercenary: Hey, where d'ya think you're going with that Barrel?
(A guard comes over and takes the barrel off you.)
Mercenary: 'Cor! This barrel is really heavy!
Mercenary: Have you been mining lead?
Mercenary: Har, har har!
Ana: How rude! Why I ought to teach you a lesson.
Mercenary: What was that!
(The guards kick the barrel open.!)
Ana: How dare you say that I'm as heavy as lead?
(The guards drag Ana of and then throw you into a cell.)
(Guards: Into the cell you go!)
(I hope this teaches you a lesson.)

Mercenary by the Lift Platform[]

Mercenary: Yes, what do you want?
- Nothing thanks - sorry for disturbing you.
  - Player: Nothing thanks - sorry for disturbing you.
  - Mercenary: Well...I guess that's Ok, get on your way though.
- Your head on a stick.
  - Player: Your head on a stick.
  - Mercenary: Why you ungrateful whelp...I'll teach you some manners.
  - (The guard shouts for help.)
  - (You are under attack!)
  - (Other guards start arriving.)
  - Mercenary: Get him men!
  - (The guards rough you up a bit and then drag you to a cell.)

When player attempts to search or use the Lift Platform[]

Mercenary: Hey there, what do you want?
- What is this thing?
  - Mercenary: It is quite clearly a lift.
  - Mercenary: Any fool can see that it's used to transport rock to the surface.
    - Can I use this?
      - (See below)
    - Ok, thanks.
      - Player: Ok, thanks.
- Can I use this?
  - Player: Can I use this?
  - Mercenary: Of course not, you'd be doing me out of a job.
  - Mercenary: Anyway, you haven't got any barrels that need to go to the surface.
  - Mercenary: Now, move along and get some work done before you get a good beating.

When player has Ana in a Barrel and tries to use/operate the Lift Platform or talk to the Mercenary near the Lift Platform[]

(The guard notices the barrel (with Ana in it) that you're carrying.)
Mercenary: Hey, that Barrel looks heavy, do you need a hand?
- Yes please.
  - Player: Yes please.
  - (The guard comes over and helps you. He takes one end of the barrel.)
  - Mercenary: Blimey! This is heavy!
  - Ana in a barrel: Why you cheeky....!
  - (The guard looks around suprised at Ana's outburst.)
  - Mercenary: What was that?
  - Player: Oh, it was nothing.
  - Mercenary: I could have sworn I heard something!
  - Ana in a barrel: Yes you did you ignaramus.
  - Mercenary: What was that you said?
    - I said you were very gregarious!
      - Player: I said you were very gregarious!
      - Ana in a barrel: You creep!
      - Mercenary: Oh, right, how very nice of you to say so.
      - (The guard seems flattered.)
      - Mercenary: Anyway, let's get this barrel up to the surface, plenty more work to you to do!
      - (The guard places the barrel carefully on the lift platform.)
      - Mercenary: Oh, there's no one operating the lift up top, hope this barrel isn't urgent?
      - Mercenary: You'd better get back to work!
    - Oh, nothing.
      - Player: Oh, nothing.
      - Mercenary: I heard you say something, now spit it out!
- No thanks, I can manage.
  - Player: No thanks, I can manage.
  - Mercenary: Ok, fair enough, I was only offering.

Mercenary outside the jail in the Desert Mining Camp mine[]

When player is in the jail[]

Mercenary: Hey, move away from the gate.
Mercenary: If you wanna get out, you're gonna have to mine for it.
Mercenary: You're gonna have to bring me 15 loads of rocks - in one go!
Mercenary: And then I'll let you out.
Mercenary: You can go back and work with the other slaves then!
Mercenary: Hey, move away from the gate.

Mercenary: Hey, move away from that gate!

When player is outside the jail[]

  - Mercenary: I'm guarding troublesome prisoners.
  - Mercenary: They think they can get away with attacking the guards.
  - Mercenary: Well, we taught them a thing or two.
