The Oily Fishing Rod is an item needed to complete the Hero's Quest. During the quest, the player takes a regular fishing rod (or buys one there) to Gerrant in Port Sarim and receives blamish snail slime. The slime is then mixed with an unfinished Harralander potion in order to make blamish oil. This is then applied to the regular fishing rod in order to make an oily fishing rod.

Later in the quest and anytime afterward, the player can use the oily rod and some fishing bait to catch raw lava eels within the Taverley dungeon.

Note: It is impossible to obtain Blamish snail slime after completing Hero's Quest. If the Oily Fishing Rod is lost and the player has no more Blamish oil, the player will never again be able to fish Raw lava eels.
