Welcome to our wiki, Enyana, and thank you for your contributions to Rogue! There's a lot to do around here, so I hope you'll stay with us and make many more improvements.
Hi Enyana, thanks for joining us here on the wiki! :) This is a talk page I am writing in, if you ever have a question or need help figuring out how to do something on the wiki, please feel free to leave me a message anytime by clicking on my signature, or going to my talk page under my account. I understand what it was like trying to edit when I was new, and I wish I had somebody I could ask questions to or welcome me on here but it never happened :(.
Also, please don't forget to put your signature at the end of each of your talk pages. All you have to do is press the Signature button next to the templates above and it will look like four ~ marks. Heracles85 19:44, April 30, 2011 (UTC)
Hi It's me again Enyana, I hope your day is doing well :)! I just wanted to give you some info on starting out with some basic things if you don't mind. Whenever I make a new page or find one without the template (or big box with the columns of info) on the right normally I end up adding one. This actually isn't as user friendly as you may think, because the ones it shows at first pretty much don't work hehe. So trial and error I found the ones that do work, first click Template under Insert, and select Other template / magic word (may have to click a couple times :p). I then type in template:in, and it's usually enough to get the infobox NPC or infobox Item to pop up. Now a green thingy appears and you just put your cursor over it to edit/delete it :P.
One last important thing is a free, downloadable software I use called Gimp 2 to add transparancy or alpha channels to screenshots. The steps I do this is: Take the screenshot, paste into Gimp 2, zoom into 400% to crop, zoom into 800% to prepare alpha channel, Go to Layer--Transparancy--Add Alpha Channel. Then I use pretty much the magic wand everywhere around the item, monster, npc etc. Items are waaaay easier to do than everything else image wise. This will add a transparant background so all that's left is just the real picture...but this can be tricky and technical at times and takes practice. Sometimes the person's brown boots is the same color as the floor he stands on, so the magic wand will want to transparent his boots also. This is where I select an unusual color like light blue and pencil around the boots for example, then the magic wand hits around it and it serves as sort of a force field. The light blue is dealt with at the very end as transparancy. Lastly when all the transparancy is added, I go to Image-Autocrop image, and if a good way to tell it's done correctly is when it autocrops perfectly around the image, but just double check with the magic wand because sometimes it doesn't fully clear all the pixels although it may look cleared. Save image and put in .png at the end and that's it! :P
Thanks for your tips! I was about to ask you how to add those info boxes because I couldn't figure it out, but you've explain it before I could even ask hehe :). I'll download Gimp 2 and make my images transparent hopefully soon but I do have a busy week this week so I'll see what I can do since cropping can be time consuming! Thanks again for your help. Forgot to mention
I realized I never told you about a couple things, just completely forgot lol. For cropping, all you have to do is use the square button and click and drag a square around the picture (without it going through it), and hit the Delete key. I swear it took me about two hours to figure out that's all I had to do hehe. All in all, taking the screenshot, pasting it in Gimp 2 and cropping should be about a five second process once you get used to it. When using the magic wand for putting in transparency, a shortcut to changing is just hitting the Delete key also (should work I believe). This has made it sooo much easier than when I use to go in manually delete each time from the Edit tab :P.
Also there is the Infobox monster template, so I just replaced your Otherworldly Being to the monster template...hope you don't mind. Oh and please respond on my talk page so I know I have new messages, you responded on your own page and found it by accident but it's ok Xd! Have fun and good luck on here! Select by color tool
Hi there Enyana :). I have a good feeling I know what you were asking about, although it might have been called something else. I forgot to mention something about the magic wand, when you click outside the image to hit the Delete and make the background transparant, it sometimes doesn't work right and tries to make a part of the image itself partially transparant as well, even if it wasn't selected. I have noticed mainly with the brown boots on people :/.
This is when you have to get the wacky light blue color or something and pencil around it so it doesn't make it partially transparant where you don't want it (make sure you do Undo if it does, or on the right hand side has the history and you can sort back to wherever the mistake was made). Also, when using the pencil for the light blue, you have to have Select None on under Edit (or no magic wand going) or it won't work. I hope this helped! :) Heracles85Talk 03:41, May 7, 2011 (UTC)
Welcome to the Wiki. :)
Re: Drop Logs / Combat Calculator
Hi Enyana, I have fully read and understand everything you mentioned in your message. All I have to say is it is truly awesome we have people here who truly care about this wiki and coming up with great ideas :D! I think this is a truly awesome idea with the drops and %'s, although I do think the other part with the combat exp calculator might be a little early for this wiki...I believe Zorak is the one to talk to about that as I have seen him do calculators from stuff in the past and he has experience in that field. He is probably reading this too ;). I just think there aren't enough players around yet or who will be using the combat calculator quite yet...
As for this other project, Zorak's links were very helpful, and I can even copy and paste his template and probably save it to use on here. Although I have never made a new template, I also have no idea how to do half this stuff for NPC drop tables to coincide with an overall drop table, or really what a subpage even is. This will take time to learn and tweak around with, as I have done with everything else on here to learn what I'm doing lol.
A problem I see already, although you may not have seen this yet, are the wikitables on this wiki. They're stubborn pieces of sht and you can't edit or really adjust any of them, so once you make the table you're stuck with what you have and can't change numbers of columns, rows, or move them around at all. Zorak or somebody has got to know how to edit the tables first before we can really do this :/.
On a side note, I love the idea of adding images to the drop tables :D! I was only doing this for shops because whoever did Peksa's Helmet Shop a while back had an Images column and I loooove pretty colorful little pictures and used that table to add for the rest of the shops! (I guess I'm just a visual person) When you added King Lathas' Weaponry Shop a week or so ago, Jlun2 had removed the images because he stated the page "lagged". Boo for that :P! I have never experienced any lag while doing all the shops with images (then again I also have amazing connection speed)
Images not Showing Up
Hi Enyana! Thanks for uploading those images! I saw you mention that you uploaded a new version of an image but it looks as if it stays the same. It's because of a wikia bug, hopefully it will soon be fixed, but I wanted to let you know that you actually did update it correctly. Thanks! Nex UndiqueTalk 02:00, June 12, 2011 (UTC)
