The main RuneScape Wiki has an article on: Weapon
The Old School RuneScape Wiki also has an article on Weapon.

A Weapon is a wieldable item that players can use to inflict damage in combat with other players or monsters.

There are many different types of weapons in RuneScape Classic.

Melee Weapons

Melee weapons must be used in combat and cannot be used long-range. However, knives and spears can also be used for ranged attacks. All melee weapons are one-handed except for 2-handed swords and the Staff of Iban. When weapons are wielded, they will give WeaponAim and WeaponPower bonuses, and better weapons will give higher bonuses. These bonuses will allow the player to hit higher and more often when in combat.

Daggers

Axes

Knives

Maces

Short Swords

Scimitars

Long Swords

Battle Axes

Spears

2-handed Swords

The 2-handed sword is the most popular choice as a melee weapon as it gives the highest weapon bonuses in comparison to the other types of melee weapons.

Staves

Ranged Weapons

For ranged, weapons include bows and crossbows and they can be used to fire ammo at an opponent from a distance. Bows require two hands to operate.

Trivia

  • Before 8 December 2001, players weren't forced to meet attack level requirements to equip a melee weapon.
